Driven by a fascination with the alphabet as a vessel for unlimited ideas, systems and languages, Alphabetical Playground explores a wide range of themes concerning expression in text. It presents a playful series of graphic experiments that investigate and manipulate the building blocks of language. Each section introduces a uniquely structured exploratory theme, signposted throughout by an alphabetic index code system. Due for release in the autumn, Alphabetical Playground is a collected publication of the project and Nigel Cottier's second book on typographic experimentation.

Nigel Cottier is a designer and experimental typographer with an ongoing interest in creating work of beauty using formulae, hidden systems and data as tools for creation.

As a Designer and Director he has led notable commercial projects for clients including Apple, BMW, Google, IBM, Nike, NASA and Rapha.

Published in 2021, Letterform Variations is his first book, a playful study into letterform construction using basic grid and shape based systems and its potential to generate vast amounts of varying alphabetical outcomes.
